I have been building websites since 1996 both locally (Hudson Valley Web Design) and in other parts of the world. I have been involved in the creation of over 200 commercial web properties with budgets ranging as little as $1,500 to as much $40,000. My involvement has been on every level from various production roles (programming, database, design, content, etc.) to management roles overseeing large teams. Depending on the size of the project, I can do website build-outs myself or assemble a team of sub-contractors to produce web projects on a very large scale.
Simple CMS Website
A very affordable solution for most small business owners, a CMS website is a website that is feature rich and built on a WordPress platform. The WordPress platform is a powerful content management system (CMS) that gives the website owner control over the content. In addition, the platform has a large library of pre-existing feature add-ons that plug in to the website making it significantly more robust than standard html websites.
CMS Website with Custom Features
For web properties with a more advanced feature set. In this situation, I install a Coldfusion based CMS application. Coldfusion is a powerful application development framework. The custom features will be built in Coldfusion and added to the CMS app to the express specifications of the website owner. Website owners with unique ideas and concepts will benefit most from this option.
Fully Custom Website from the Ground Up
This option is for the web entrepreneur that has a brand new idea and needs to build a website completely from scratch. With confidentiality agreements in place, I and my team will work with you from the very beginning, helping to organize the ideas and loose concepts into a finely crafted, well thought out project plan.
My Love Affair with Web Design in the Hudson Valley
I love the Hudson Valley and have been doing business here since since college. Although I take projects in various parts og the country, I love doing business locally. When it comes to the Hudson Valley, a lot of the small business ideas take advantage of our local market which is very unique to the rest of the country. My business experience is deeply rooted here and is an advantage to business owners her in the Hudson Valley area.
Which CMS software do you use? We are researching different ones available online but have been overwhelmed by the huge selection available. We hand coded one a year ago in .asp but are looking for some alternatives to offer people.
I’d be interested to hear which CMS you’re using as well. We have tried Sitefinity, Word Press, and Joomla, and are about to do our first Drupal project. It’s hard to know which is the best, I guess it comes down to client needs?
I am in favor of Joomla!
I simply cannot deny its power over its components, plugin, themes and stability.
You rocks! How I wish I have that experience and expertise on site construction.
Nice share. thanks!
Joomla is good but can be a bit intimidating to the novice. WordPress can do almost everything that Joomla can do and is much more user-friendly.
I like wordpress but I cannot ignore Joomla’s power and flexibility…
Joomla for me is the best Open Source CMS on the market. Integrated with WordPress and you have a complete CMS and Blogging framework
I prefer wordpress because it’s really powerfull and simple at the same time. Of course Joomla is great CMS with much more functions and abilities but I’m closer to the WordPress for it’s simple engine.
i think it’s great, that you have been able to keep the local focus that you seem to enjoy so much. it some local markets it becomes difficult to establish yourself, either because of lack of businness, or the wealth of competition. Great post !
Drupal was announced the winner in Packt Publishing’s 2008 award for Best PHP Based Open Source CMS..Very strong and safe system for me.
WordPress’ plugins and themes are mostly limited to blogging. Joomla offers way more than that.
Probably the most important thing, if you want any kind of web design, is to set a budget.
How much work, X, is the designer expected to do for Y amount of money, in Z amount of time. Mission creep – fear it!
Also, what is the site supposed to _do_ for you. Many designers can create an impressive-looking site; then what?
I have been using Joomla for quite some time now, but I cannot overlook the user-friendliness that wordpress provides.
Which CMS do you prefer?
i also use wordpress primarily. but this gives me something to think about. great post.
I believe, a good website design is a critical component of any new business launch. It does not mean creating a few pages of text. It has an importance attached to it. Therefore, web site design is a unique blend of artistic skill, technical prowess. It also involves the knowledge of constantly changing technology and the implementation of a complete Internet marketing campaign.
Now these days website is a must have for business. having this kind of resources and know how would be a nice lift for the company…
thanks for sharing.
I think it is good to be able to design sites on multiple platforms, depending on what your looking to do or what your clients are looking for.
